R'S AMERICATINA SUPPORTS LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT

Friday, November 2, 2007
-
The week before the official opening of R's Americantina, there was a soft opening during which many community members were invited out to enjoy a lunch "on the owner." Several Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department members accepted the offer and marveled at the generosity of the owner, Rick Sarmiento. They had no idea just how generous he was going to be. A few weeks after the official opening, the Department was contacted by Lisa Gotwols, head of marketing for R's Americantina, to inform them that the owner would like to donate $125,000 for the new fire station. "As the new neighbors in the business community, R's Americantina wanted to show our support for our local volunteer fire department," stated owner, Rick Sarmiento. Presently, there is a "Room Sponsorship" initiative in place at the new station and there will be a plaque acknowledging R's Americantina's as the Community Room Kitchen sponsor. "I think this is the start of a long term relationship," stated Ms. Gotwols. R's Americantina is donating 5% of all sales on Tuesdays to the capital campaign as part of their pledge. Lisa stated, "Join us for lunch or dinner on Tuesdays, help us support the KIVFD and experience R's Kiln-Fired Mexican Specialties." Jody Schulz, the KIVFD President stated that "generosity of this magnitude always blows me away." The new station is on track to open before the end of the year. Schulz added, "The community has played such an important role in the station becoming a reality and everyone will be invited to join us for the dedication." The station dedication information will be made public shortly. Anyone interested in finding out more about the capital campaign or becoming a Room Sponsors, please contact KIVFD Administrator, Sandra Early at 410-643-6288.

MATERIAL DONATION TO NEW FIRE STATION

Friday, January 5, 2007
-
The DeVere Insulation Company has generously agreed to donate their services for the new fire station on Kent Island. Ron Deel (left) heads up the eastern shore residential and commercial sales for DeVere Insulation. He originally connected with Francis Roudiez (right), Past President of the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department, through the Kent Island Lion's Club, a service organization of which both gentlemen are Past Presidents and members of the Board of Directors. Mr. Deel explained that the owner of DeVere Insulation, Bob DeVere, didn't hesitate when he approached him with the suggestions of an in-kind donation; "Mr. Devere is very generous and he thinks it's important to give back to the community where he does business." The Volunteer Fire Department, the Lion's Club and a business that gives back to the community...philanthropy is alive and well on Kent Island!
