 <![CDATA[&nbsp;The
Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department (KIVFD) is a Volunteer community service organization
of approximately 100 members who utilize part-time paid staff to provide ALS
level EMS response to the citizens of Stevensville, Chester and the surrounding
area. &nbsp;KIVFD responds to some 1500+
emergency calls a year and transports patients to all local hospitals.&nbsp; Successful candidates will work closely with
volunteer firefighters and under the direction of volunteer officers of the
department as well as with career personnel from Queen Anneâs County who
provide emergency medical response in the community as well. Prior to being
approved as a cleared provider, the candidate will be required to participate
in the Queen Anneâs County ALS Provider clearing process which entails riding
with QAC career staff to be evaluated.

&nbsp;

Position: &nbsp;Part-Time ALS Provider/Firefighter (No
benefits)&nbsp;24-36 hours/month

Eligibility:
To be eligible for
consideration for this position, the applicant must complete the attached
application and have the following licenses.



State
of&nbsp;Maryland&nbsp;licensed Paramedic (EMT-P) orState
of&nbsp;Maryland&nbsp;licensed Cardiac Rescue Technician (CRT) and Current
State of Maryland Driver license with less than 5 points.







About the position:&nbsp; This is part-time position requiring
manual and technical work in Emergency Medical Service and may if qualified, under
emergent conditions involve firefighting duties and responsibilities of an
emergency and hazardous nature, which may require the highest level of
sustained exertion and agility.&nbsp; In
addition to emergency response activities, employees are required to assist in
maintaining the cleanliness of the station and apparatus, and may be assigned
other related duties and responsibilities.&nbsp;






The
schedule includes shifts 7 days a week, including holidays.&nbsp; Shift times are Monday-Friday from
0700-1700hrs.; Weekends are from 0800-1800hrs. 



Applicants
selected for the position will be required to complete a DOT physical including
drug test and be finger printed and have a complete background check completed
by the Queen Anneâs County Sheriffâs Dept.&nbsp;
The fire department will cover costs for these requirements (Does not
include travel expenses).&nbsp; 



Employees
are required to maintain required licenses at the employees own expense. 









Employees
are provided uniforms by the fire department at no expense to the employee.



The process:



Applications will be accepted from May 8 thru
     May 22, 2013 @ 1700 hrs.
 1st week of June.&nbsp; Select applicants will be invited for a
     station tour and interview with the hiring committee.
 2nd week of June. Select applicants
     will be invited to interview with the Fire Chief, EMS Chief and President.
 3rd-4th week of
     June.&nbsp; Successful applicants will be
     notified of their hiring.
 1st Week of July.&nbsp; New hire employees will have an
     orientation and begin the clearing process with QAC Dept. of Emergency
     Services.

 <![CDATA[Kent Island Volunteers held EMS Training on Tuesday evening.&nbsp; Paramedic Scott Wheatley made a great presentation on the history of EMS including a short movie that showed the group where EMS has come from, highlighting the "old days".&nbsp;&nbsp; Following his presentation, EMT&nbsp;Sue Colburn a past EMS&nbsp;Officer with department spoke about the history of EMS&nbsp;with Kent Island.&nbsp; EMS&nbsp;Captain Mowbray said it is very important for EMS&nbsp;providers to know about the history of the program so they better appreciate EMS in 2013.On Wednesday evening, 27 members participated in auto extrication training.&nbsp; Volunteers reviewed the thought processes involved if you are the officer in charge... talked about thinking ahead to the next step and always having alternate plans B, C, D, etc... so your ready when "Murphy's Law" pays you a visit.&nbsp; The members worked on using cribbing and the Rescue 42's to stabilize a vehicle before entering it... then they used the "jaws of life", hurst cutter to remove the roof.... and the spreaders to pop the doors.&nbsp; Lastly, the rams were used to push the dash away as if it were entrapping a patient.&nbsp; For the two evenings of training, the Volunteers logged 188 man hours.&nbsp; If you happen by and see us out there training, feel free to stopby, watch, ask questions. &nbsp; ...]]>

 	<title>KENT ISLAND VFD AWARDED ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT</title>

 <![CDATA[The Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $44,672 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Homeland Securityâs Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.&nbsp;Kent Island VFD will use the award funding to purchase 12 Carbon Monoxide Monitors, which will be always on, connected to oxygen bags and will passively monitor for CO in every situation where the bag is taken. &nbsp;So even if the complaint isn't directly CO related, the monitor will let crews know if CO Gas is present. &nbsp;Kent Island VFD will also purchase a cardiac monitor/defibrillator to replace an older model unit. &nbsp;In addition, 4each &nbsp;RAD 57 units will be purchased. &nbsp;RAD57 units monitor and detect levels of carbon monoxide and cyanide in the blood. &nbsp;The members of the Fire Dept. extend our sincere Thanks to Chief Paul Schlotterbeck for his work in completing the grant research and paperwork which will allow us to purchase this critical equipment to increase firefighter safety and the service provided to our community....]]>

Box 1-4: Station #1 was alerted for a vehicle fire at the Store Stop, 201 Romancoke Rd. Engine 14 and Engine-Tanker 1 responded with 8 volunteers. Members from United Communities (Sta. 9) who were in the area, extinguished the fire with their personal fire extinguisher. &nbsp;Engine 14 continued into the scene to check the vehicle and document the incident. &nbsp;Engine-Tanker 1 was placed in service prior to arrival. &nbsp;Chief 10 (Schulz) had the command.
