Garage fire in Bay City

Shortly after 9 PM the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Dept. along with units from Grasonville, United Communities, Queenstown, QA Co. DES, and Anne Arundel County were alerted for a dwelling fire. Chief 1 (A/C Schlotterbeck) arrived to find fire showing from the attached garage with heavy smoke conditions throughout the dwelling. Engine 12 arrived and made an aggressive interior attack. The fire was contained to the garage and attic space. There was smoke damage inside of the dwelling. Responding departments had this fire under control in under 30 minutes.

The male occupant of the dwelling sustained burns and was transported by MSP Aviation to the burn center at Johns Hopkins Bayview. The female occupant sustained minor burns and was treated at the scene. Three cats perished in the fire.

The cause of this fire is under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
